Document & ID Security Through Physical Engraving
SEMCO International presents electronic image engraving technology designed to add a physical security feature to compatible documents and identity cards.

Printing Can Be Copied. Physical Engraving Adds Another Layer.
Standard ink printing and high-resolution digital scanning operate entirely on the surface plane. SEMCO's stylus engraving forms a deep physical indentation within compatible media, providing an unforgeable tactile and optical characteristic that flat reproduction cannot capture.

Original Document
Contains micro-mechanical stylus engravings penetrating the substrate matrix.
Photocopy or Scan
Scanners register 2D surface reflections but cannot capture internal mechanical depth.

Reproduction
Flat printout lacks the physical groove depth and light-transmission characteristics.
A Security Feature Engraved into the Media
The SEMCO system executes a stylus-based raster engraving process, altering the physical density and surface profile of specialized media to create an internal, tamper-evident security watermark.

1. Stylus Penetration
A diamond or carbide stylus oscillates at high frequency (1.6 KHz), exerting microscopic vertical impact upon the target substrate without ripping the surrounding fibers.
2. Depth & Tone Variation
By modulating penetration depth across 256 discrete levels, photographic grayscale portraits and complex security emblems are translated directly into physical topography.
3. Substrate Embedding
The watermark becomes an inseparable structural element of the document, protected beneath surface resin layers and immune to chemical solvent washing.
Negative in One View. Positive Through Light.
The appearance of the engraved watermark depends on the media and viewing conditions. In the demonstrated example, transmitted light reveals a positive image from the negative watermark.

Inspection Methodology
When illuminated from the front at normal angles, the diamond stylus impressions appear as an indented, negative tonality across the substrate.
Holding the document up to natural or back-projection light causes the varying substrate thicknesses to transmit differential luminous flux—rendering a photorealistic positive portrait immediately obvious to immigration or border authorities.
See the Physical Difference
The security feature is intended to be visually inspected under suitable lighting, and a scan or photocopy completely fails to reproduce the same physical engraving.

Original Document
Watermark VerifiedAuthentic specimen showing real physical engraving directly in the paper matrix. Watermark reacts dynamically when tilted or held against transmitted light.

Reproduction
Watermark LostPhotocopied or scanned replica. Because standard copiers cannot transfer depth into the paper fibers, the internal watermark is entirely missing.
Engineered Media for Physical Engraving
Ordinary paper tears under high-frequency vertical stylus vibration, while standard monolithic PVC cards can fracture. SEMCO utilizes specialized engineered media designed to absorb mechanical engraving without structural failure.

Special Synthetic Resin Paper (SSRP)
A polyester-film-based, specially coated, colour-laser-printable, non-tear media specifically designed for engraving and digital or offset printing.

Engraving Card Structure
Engineered with distinct stratified layers allowing the mechanical stylus to alter the upper layers without cracking or piercing through the underlying clear base core.
Document Applications
Archival reference examples illustrating physical engraving implementations across official governmental, academic, and administrative document formats using authentic client-provided specimens.

Passport Booklet Engraving Attachment & Positioning Specimen
Precision vacuum clamping system designed for multi-page travel booklets, applying micro-engraved portraits and serial watermarks.
Identity & Card Applications
Every card application specimen below demonstrates authentic physical engraving rather than an embossed or raised effect, with unique source photographs of client-provided identity cards and vehicle registration certificates.
